Building a network in France

Our membersOur methodOur programsThe FAIR program

Being part of a network has become vital to address the threats facing the working conditions of associations, unions, and independent collectives in France.

The REF connects French organizations committed to the Mediterranean to pool their resources, share best practices, and strengthen their operational and strategic capabilities.

JOIN THE NETWORK

The REF brings together a diverse network of French associations, collectives, and unions, as well as individual members committed to the Mediterranean region.

Being part of the REF network means pooling knowledge and practices, sharing approaches and resources, and empowering one another through collective action.

Acting collectively:
tools and methodology

The REF's network coordination stands out by its operational approach, based on the implementation of projects designed and led with its members. At the heart of this dynamic lies participatory governance, designed as a lever for collective strengthening and co-construction. As a network lead, the REF serves as a space for creating and experimenting with projects, encouraging the direct involvement of its members at every stage, from conception to implementation. The REF also provides its members with digital tools for sharing information and resources, which contribute to the dynamic of peer-to-peer strengthening and cooperation within the network.

REF Programs

The REF is a space for reflection, networking, and collective learning. Internal seminars are organized regularly so that members can exchange expertise and explore questions related to their daily work or the evolving geopolitical landscape. These seminars are essential and privileged moments in the life of the network. These REF Programs can be structured as forums for sharing associational experiences, or as full-fledged training modules led by REF members and partners to address specific needs.

FAIR mechanism

The Fonds d'appui aux initiatives des membres du REF (FAIR) -- REF member Initiative Support Fund -- was a micro-funding mechanism implemented between 2020 and 2023 to encourage collective initiatives led by at least two network members. It aimed to strengthen mutual understanding, break down silos between issues, and support the emergence of partnerships among members. Accessible without any length-of-membership requirements, it funded meetings, training sessions, and practical and capitalization activities. Over four years, the FAIR supported 25 projects and contributed to the development of new cooperation efforts between REF members. Here are a few examples of projects:

Lebanon, three years after the “Thawra”: conference and exhibition

Diasporic resonances: podcast creation
