The REF is committed to defending human rights and democratic practices against the rise of authoritarianism and far-right ideologies.
It produces and disseminates high-quality information, hosts public debates, speaks at universities, and engages with French public authorities regarding the shrinking space for civil society in the Mediterranean.

Since 2014, the REF has published Les Cahiers du REF (REF Journals), a collection of collaborative journals aimed at highlighting the diversity of civil society mobilizations in the Mediterranean region. These journals make the ideas, analyses, and grassroots practices that emerge from the consultation sessions organized by the REF (such as Med Youth meetings, conferences, and collective work sessions) accessible to the public.
It is also about taking a stand on current Mediterranean issues, promoting the diverse voices of civil society, and building common ground. This collection is intended for civil society actors, the general public, and public authorities alike.

The REF is actively committed to human rights and democratic practices, standing against the far-right and the rise of authoritarianism. To this end, it engages in regular dialogue with French public authorities regarding current Mediterranean issues, in order to convey the concerns and recommendations of its members and partners, and to raise awareness about the deteriorating environment for civil society in the Mediterranean. It also participates in numerous external events, develops relationships with universities, and occasionally intervenes in schools. The goal for the REF is to strengthen the understanding of current Mediterranean issues and the adoption of human rights values among the public, particularly among young people.

Majalat is a project aimed at fostering dialogue between civil societies in the Southern neighborhood and the European Union. Through an annual cycle of meetings at the national, regional, and European levels, this project seeks to mobilize independent civil society and European Commission representatives around issues of good governance, migration, combating violence, economic and social development, and social and climate justice. In a consortium with Euromed Rights (the project lead), as well as the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), the Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), SOLIDAR, and the Forum des Alternatives Maroc (FMAS), the REF co-led the first phase of this project, which took place from 2018 to 2021.

In 2021, the REF launched a pilot advocacy campaign aimed at helping revitalize the Euro-Mediterranean partnership by placing citizens, independent civil society organizations, and the media at the heart of regional institutions' decision-making processes regarding the future of the Mediterranean. This #Ourmediterranean campaign was carried out with three other partners: CIVITAS (Palestine), Mashallah News (France/Lebanon/Georgia), and Maydan Association (Italy). It resulted in the creation of a booklet titled A Roadmap for Building a Common Destiny in the Mediterranean (in 3 languages: French, English, and Arabic) and a video promoting the campaign's results to the general public.
